Our Fall 2026 offerings invite us to practice this kind of learning in several directions at once. In Gospels and Acts, we seek a deeper understanding of the Scriptures and their witness to Jesus Christ. In Understanding the Physical World, we turn our attention to the created order and learn to engage the physical sciences thoughtfully. In Critical Thinking and Academic Inquiry, we learn how to ask good questions, evaluate arguments, and pursue truth responsibly. Human Context of Ministry teaches us to understand people, societies, and cultures more carefully, while Creative Teaching Method and Small Group Facilitation helps us communicate what we have learned so that others may grow. Advanced Grammar and Reading Comprehension strengthens our ability to read and communicate across academic and cultural settings. And through Devotional Life, Research, and Field Education, learning is joined to spiritual formation, disciplined inquiry, and actual ministry practice.
In this sense, “Faith Seeking Understanding” is not simply a slogan for the semester. It describes the educational journey we hope to undertake together.

We seek to understand God’s Word.
We seek to understand God’s world.
We seek to understand how we think.
We seek to understand people and cultures.
We seek to understand how to teach and communicate.
And through it all, we seek to understand how our learning can lead to faithful Christian living and wise service.

This vision reflects the larger purpose of Chin Academy: theological education that is academically responsible, spiritually formative, and oriented toward faithful ministry and lifelong learning.

Christian education is more than acquiring information. We study because we want to understand—God’s Word, God’s world, the people around us, the cultures in which we live, and the ministries to which God has called us. And we seek understanding not merely to know more, but to live more faithfully and serve more wisely.

Understanding the Word

In NT 1226/NT 2226 Gospels and Acts, students return to the foundational testimony about Jesus Christ and the birth and mission of the early church. Studying the Gospels and Acts reminds us that Christian learning begins with listening carefully to Scripture and learning to interpret its witness faithfully.

But Scripture is not studied simply for academic knowledge. The story of Jesus and the movement of the Spirit in Acts call us to discipleship, mission, community, and faithful witness in our own generation.

Understanding the World

Our faith also calls us to pay attention to the world God has made.

GS 1500 Understanding the Physical World invites students to encounter the physical sciences with curiosity and Christian reflection. Theology need not fear serious engagement with the natural world. Learning about creation can deepen our wonder, sharpen our questions, and help us think responsibly about the relationship between scientific knowledge and Christian faith.

Faith seeks understanding because all truth matters.

Understanding How We Think

In GS 1153/IS 3160 Critical Thinking and Academic Inquiry, students learn to ask better questions, examine assumptions, evaluate arguments, engage evidence, and pursue truth responsibly.

The church needs people who can think carefully without becoming cynical, hold convictions without refusing questions, and distinguish faithful reasoning from shallow argument.

Critical thinking, rightly practiced, can therefore become an expression of intellectual stewardship.

Understanding People and Contexts

Ministry never takes place in a vacuum.

IS 2310 Human Context of Ministry turns our attention toward culture, society, human development, communities, and the environments in which people actually live. Good ministry requires more than knowing what we want to say. It requires learning to see, listen, understand, and respond faithfully to people in their particular contexts.

For Chin Academy, this is especially important as our students and ministries cross nations, cultures, languages, generations, and diaspora communities.

Learning to Teach What We Have Learned

Understanding must eventually become communication.

CE 3268 Creative Teaching Method and Small Group Facilitation equips students to move from knowing something themselves to helping others learn. Christian teachers need more than content. They need the ability to ask good questions, facilitate meaningful discussion, design engaging learning experiences, listen to learners, and create spaces where people can grow together.

This course expresses one of the convictions at the heart of Chin Academy:

We learn so that we may live, and we live what we hope to teach.

Forming the Person Who Learns

Academic formation without spiritual formation is incomplete.

That is why SF 0101 Devotional Life stands alongside our academic courses. Devotional practices remind us that theological education concerns not only what we know but also who we are becoming.

The Christian learner is not simply a mind carrying information. We are whole persons being formed before God.

Finding a Voice for Learning

MLAP 2 Advanced Grammar and Reading Comprehension strengthens another essential part of education: the ability to read carefully, understand accurately, and communicate clearly.

For students working across languages and cultures, developing academic language is not merely a technical requirement. Language becomes a bridge—into books, classrooms, conversations, research, ministry, and relationships with the wider world.

From the Classroom to the Field

Fall 2026 also includes opportunities for Research and Field Education through self-paced study and supervised engagement.

This is where learning is tested and embodied. Research asks us to investigate carefully. Field education asks us to serve faithfully. Both remind us that education should eventually move beyond the classroom into disciplined inquiry, churches, communities, ministries, and the realities of everyday life.

One Semester, One Journey

Seen together, our Fall 2026 courses form more than a timetable.

We will learn to read the Word.
We will learn to observe the world.
We will learn to think carefully.
We will learn to understand people and cultures.
We will learn to teach creatively.
We will learn to communicate clearly.
We will learn to practice devotion.
And we will learn to turn knowledge into research, ministry, and faithful service.

This is what we mean by Faith Seeking Understanding.

We do not seek understanding so that we can merely say that we know. We seek understanding so that our faith may become deeper, our lives wiser, our teaching clearer, and our service more faithful.

As we begin Fall Semester 2026, may God give each student and instructor faith that seeks understanding, understanding that grows into wisdom, and wisdom that bears fruit in faithful service.
